Pianist JOEL WIZANSKY has been acclaimed by audiences and musicians alike for his combination of fiery pianism and probing musicianship. A student of Leonard Shure and Leon Fleisher, he today perpetuates the artistic tradition of their teacher, the legendary Artur Schnabel. Among Mr. Wizansky's numerous awards are first prize in the Helen Hart International Piano Competition, fifth prize in the prestigious Marguerite Long International Competition, and first prize in the Yale Gordon Competition.
Mr. Wizansky made his debut with the San Francisco Symphony at the age of 17. Since that time he has performed frequently in recital and with orchestra across the United States and in Europe, Taiwan and Korea. Among his solo appearances have been recitals at the 92nd St. Y in New York, at the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and at Old First Concerts in San Francisco, as well as performances with the Annapolis Symphony, the Mozart Classical Orchestra, and the Orchestre symphonique de Nancy in France. Mr. Wizansky has been heard in radio broadcast performances in New York, Washington, Baltimore and Chicago. He has recorded for Albany Records, and his solo disc A Brahms Recital appeared on the MRC label. Mr. Wizansky is also a noted chamber musician and collaborator, and has appeared in duo recitals at such venues as Weill Recital Hall in New York, the National Concert Hall in Taipei and the Seoul Arts Center in Korea.
Mr. Wizansky is a graduate of the New England Conservatory, and earned the Artist Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory. He has served on the faculty at Peabody and most recently at the Yale School of Music.
